RMAN- It can save backups without RMAN catalog

Hi,

I do a backup RMAN without catalog

My question is: It can save backups without RMAN catalog.

Because I want to restore my database  to  a new database,

Oracle version :
Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.6.3.0, 64 bit - Production
PL/SQL Release 8.1.6.3.0 - Production
CORE    8.1.6.0.0       Production
TNS for HPUX: Version 8.1.6.3.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 3.4.0.0.0 - Production
