Automatic numbering jumps

Hi

I have a set up automatic numbering, but I've noticed that sometimes it jumps. Example: Adding an asset and put me at number 1929. Then I added another, and placed me 1944. I have no assets with numbers from 1930 to 1943.
How I can do to make the numbers are consecutive and not have automatic numbering jumps.
