Tracking items

Hello

There is a scenario where once the item is shipped from warehouse to an internal location needs tracking. The item can be considered as consumable item , as in chemical which is used in various RnD tests. so if 2 bottlea are shipped and 1 bottle is unused, can this be tracked by any way.....any inputs will be really helpful.....
