CostCentere segment?

Hi,

Can anybody please explanin what is the use of "Costcenter segment flexfield" quolifer?
For tracking the expenditure wise reports or statements, we do not need to enable this qualifier.
Heared that there is importance of "costcenter" segment in Fixed assets.
Please let me know what is use of that?
