BI Publisher error message - RTF file

Do you know why I keep getting this error message when I try to create an RTF file from my XML file? Here is the error message:

"The report does not contain any data fields. Please make sure that the report generates data with the default settings or provide a valid XML file".

 What do I need to do to be able to create my RTF file? Please advise.
