VM 3.0.3 - Local Storage with RAID controller???

Trying to move from VM 2.x to VM 3.0.3 - mainly for the 64bit support.I have a RAID 1 setup using 2 600GB drives.
I *thought* I could partition my free space using the RAID controller and the VM Server would accept it as a blank hard drive...
I'm guessing this is not the case as it's not appearing in the console at all...
Has anyone else ran into this snafu?
Is there anyway to make the VM recognize the space?
If not - looks like I'll have to go back to VM 2.2 - which stinks...
