Backup Mode and Storage Snapshot VS RMAN

We have implemented an Off-Host or ZDB backup in our environment... this is an integration between a backup system and a storage system snapshot and clone technology... we use this approach to eliminate performance impact during RMAN Backups.
I want to know, if this is also being practiced on other large companies or they opt for RMAN because they have not encountered any performance issue during RMAN BAckups.
