Swapping parts: E2900 and V490
To start off my experience with with x86 linux servers, while I can get by in Solaris, I have much learning to do.
I have inherited two aging servers, an E2900 and a V490 with the E2900 in worse shape(failed system board, failed power supply, and over all physically plastic bits have dried out and break easily) while the V490 simply has a failed cpu(well psrinfo says its a virtual cpu). Reading their specs and using prtdiag they both use the same cpu(UltraSPARC IV) and ram type(though in the E2900 its 2GB sticks while the V490 has 1GB sticks) I was thinking of taking the ram and cpu from the E2900 and maxing out the V490. Is this something I can really do?
