how to find out what process is taking up the kernal percentage?

Today, our system just went so slow and everyone is calling.

I issued top and see the load is very high and the kernel percentage is also very high. There are also lots of db writer process running out there busier than usual. I know it is month end and the system is supposed to be busier than usual. But it would be nice if I can find out exactly what is taking up all the kernel percentages. I did identified one user has something running (3 session open), once I killed all his session, the problem seems to be gone. I just don't know whether he is the culprit or
