The only documentation that I could found on the subject of managing the standby database during the database upgrade is in Appendix B ofthe following manual:

Oracle® Data Guard
Concepts and Administration
11g Release 2 (11.2)
E17022-05

Section: Upgrading and Downgrading Databases in a Data Guard Configuration

The steps involved are :

1-     Review and perform the steps listed in the "Preparing to Upgrade" chapter of the Oracle Database Upgrade Guide

2-    Shut down the primary database

3-    Shut down the physical standby database(s).

4-     Stop all listeners, agents, and other processes running in the Oracle homes that are to be upgraded

5-     Install the new release of the Oracle software into a new Oracle home on the physical standby database and primary database systems, as described in the

Howdy, Stranger!
