Closed Date on Service Request BC

I'm trying to update the Closed Date on the Service Request BC when the Status = Completed, when ever i try to do it both through workflow, User Properties or Script i get the error message that Status is a required field & i should enter a value.
I've also tried scripting with a BC built on S_SRV_REQ but with a Class of CSSBusComp. I can see the SQL Update command but the update is not committed to the database. If i run the command in SQL management Studio it commits ok

Has anyone come across this before & have any suggestions for resolving this?
