Can I add coulmns to my templates

I need to run a report with a forecast figure and a variance.

I read somewhere that one can only have 20 columns, this does not make sense as there are 12 periods in the year and if I add one column per month then it is already 24.

Am I missing something or is the report manager this limiting?

I need to create Monthly Management Reports and am not sure if FSG -> Report Manager is the way to go.

Any advise will be appreciated.
