Question regarding archive logs

Say for example, I do a cold backup once every week. Use Feb as example: I will have  cold backups on Feb 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th. If for some reason, the backup didn't work  on the 15th and the archive log area is nearly full. I nevigate to the archive log directory and find out that there are still logs from January there. Can I safely say, that I can delete those January logs with no problem? Since the Feb 8th successful backup did have everything copied. Please help me understand this. Thank you very much.
