How to run 'Gather Schema Statistics' on Oracle 11g R2

Hi,
We are encountering slow performance on one of our application (Business Intelligence) and suspecting that it has something to do with db performance. We have a Oracle e-business suite application and is using the 'Gather Schema Statistics' concurrent request to 'tune' our database regularly. How can I run the same on the database that is being used by our BI application. I've read about Concurrent Statistics Gathering (Oracle Optimizer) but not sure if it is the same as Gather Schema Statistics and how to run it.
