Is database installation required when doing upgrade on a new machine?

Hi,

We are upgrading our system from 7.8.2.14 to 8.1.1.7. We are configuring the upgrade on new VMWare machine.

The upgrade guide and the installation guide says that we should not install a new database as part of install of the enterprise server if we are doing an upgrade and later change the database parameters for our RDBMS. This is because we already have a database. Since we are doing the upgrade on a new machine, where only 8.1.1.7 would be installed and no existing database or Oracle client is installed, so do we need to install the database & Oracle Client apart from Siebel Enterprise Server, SWSE and Tools?
