Translation average /standard and both calculation process

 Hi Folks,
Could some one explain me the "Translation  average /standard and both calculation process  in GL.

When I open Transalation window there is a field called usage" Standard" or "Average" or "both". what is the use of these 3 values in transalation process.

Please explain with detail example.
