Update the instance number in transaction processing error

Hi,
There are many RMA lines that are stuck in the transaction processing error screen. We would like to update the instance details for all these lines based on the inventory item .

Is there anyway of updating the transaction processing error API? and are there any API to create instance number based on Inventory item
