Use control file with embedded BIP in JDE OneWorld on AS400

I have a requirement to email invoices from BIP  but need to ensure certain conditions are met before the document can be emailed. 

I have researched and come across the use of a XML control file.  What I have not been able to determine is if this is a viable alternative when using the embedded BIP version for JDE 8.98 which is on an AS400.

I would greatly appreciate any help in this area.
