How to use bar code system automate

Hi Experts,
Our client is using bar code system and now they want to make their items bar code system automatically installed in the system.
Is there any machine or device through which the user of oracle must attach that device to the oracle system and as the item is passed through that device system automatically creates a entry of it in the system.
