Customer Names are longer than 40 character Customer Name field Length

I have an issue where we are importing information from PeopleSoft CRM into PeopleSoft Financials including the customer names. The majority of the clients have names that exceed the 40 character field length in PeopleSoft. So when the import is done a portion of the name is trunicated. Has anyone experienced a similar situation and can you provide some suggestions on how to resolve it? We have thought about customizing to expand the length of the field but looks like we would have to touch about 5,000 objects so that it's consistent throughout the system. Thanks in advance.
