FSG Profile option

Can anyone tell me what does the following FSG profile option do

FSG:Middle Points Number

We currently have this profile option set at 2 but we are getting performance issues on our Prod Instance however in our test instance it is set to 1 would that in any way make a difference in performance.

We are on 11.5.10.2
