how to stop ECO from promoting to next status

Hi,

We are looking out for way to stop ECO from getting promoted to next status.

we are using Event ChangeStatus for workflow.

In JAVA PX code , we setting Errors based on some internal validations (custom).

If there is any error then ECO should be stopped from getting into next status. Which method/API can be used for this? Please share your thoughts.

(By default ECO will get autopromoted as workflow status has autopromote set to 'Yes')
