Bursting to a Custom Channel

is it possible to burst to a custom channel? I tried to use the  external channel which comes seeded to execute a system command but couldn't get it to work. My control file is as follows. My original requirement is to run a shell script but in the below example i just want to see if i can get coomand to just copy the file to a particular directory.
