Using ZFS Mirror to migrate data from one SAN to another

We currently have several M5000s with containers. Storage is provided from an EMC SAN. We are planning to purchase a new SAN, and are planning for the migration of the data. Both SANs should be able to be presented to the M5000s, via the iSCSI fabric. If we have a zpool grown over the last 2 years from 3 LUNs, I would like to present an equivalent LUN from the new SAN, attach this to the zpool as a mirror, allow the mirror to sync, and then detach the old LUNs leaving the new LUN as the zpool.
The problem is, that the manual on ZFS we have, says that detach will fail if no valid mirror exists. Is it possible to attach a mirror and then detach a mirror leaving no mirror, and if so how ?

Howdy, Stranger!
