SLA table sizes extremely large and affecting performance

Any suggestions on managing the tables for the SLA historical data. We have history currently back to 2002 and need to go bck to 1998 but fear that the table space is becoming extremely large and affecting performance. These history transactions are neede to do the monthly reconciliation by running the Accrual Reconciliation Load Run and then the various Accrual programs.

Can some of the data be purged and what are the steps? Any feedback is appreciated.
