Text fields summing to total text

We have a text field in our planning application that denotes if an Employee is Hour or Salary, Y for Salary, N for Hourly.  Since this is a text field, I would not expect anything to show up at the total line... However, the text "Test 7" appears in the total line.  (see attachment for screen shot). 

Has anyone see this? I understand that essbase only stores numerical values, planning stores the text/date in its database tables, it creates an a numerical id for each of the text values, this numerical id is then stored in essbase.  So I was wondering if my total would be summing up the 1s & 2s and tranlating the total to read "test7")
