11i to R12 upgradation in a multinode enviorment

We have a shared 11i multitude shared application architecture and we have to upgrade it to R12.
Server A -> DB node
Server B -> Apps Node
Server C -> Apps Node

Do we need to install the software on DB node Or will the software install on Apps node will work for us ?

We want to use the existing 11i home etc. on DB node.
