Global versus Regional Catalogues

We currently use regional catalogues due to the differences in currency and VAT treatment for items.  We have very few truly global vendors.  We are considering going to a global catalogue for one segment of the business.  How would you handle the different currencies and VAT treatment?  Would an item like file folders, need to be created for each currency, VAT treatment?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
