Converting an existing ASM system to use ASMLib

We currently have a RAC production database that uses ASM. It is 11gR1, on RHEL 5.5. We will be upgrading to 11gR2 in the future. To be consistent with a newer database running 11gR2 and ASMLib on RHEL 5.6, we were considering converting it to use ASMLib.

Is this possible? (we would be able to take the system down to do the change, possible before/during/after the upgrade to R2).

Is there a Note or best practices on this?

I suppose we could take an RMAN backup to somewhere other than the existing Fast Recovery disk group, so that it doesn't get destroyed if we have to recreate the disks using asmlib. Recreate all the disks and disk groups, and then somehow restore the RMAN back to an empty +DATA and +FRA disk area. But I have never restored to empty disk space and don't know if that is how it is done.

Howdy, Stranger!
