We wish to disable all packaging items in our BOM's

We wish to disable packaging components from out BOM since we do not store these materials as inventory so when they belong to BOMs we cannot release them.  Our users want to diable these items--since we are talking quite a few--can we simply update the disable dates for those components in BOM_COMPONENTS_B ?
