Labor distribution not picking up for just 5 employees

We have been using labor distribution for 4 years, when we upgraded last week, there are about 5 employees in a group of 100 who's labor distribution records do not pick up.

The default pay type 1 is created (this is NOT a pay type we ever use) and therefore distribution is not properly applied  (this pay type is also not included in our benefit ranges so things like 401K are mis-calculating).

Any help on this?  Not sure what could be different about these Employees between 8.11 and 9.0 conversion -- they have been paid via autopay for many months previously so they are not 'new hires'.
