Internal Requisitions-OPM environment

I am currently doing set up for internal requisitions, to crate internal sales orders. The only issue I have run ino that I can not figure out is when entring the requisition it seems like I can only use internal item numbers. Looking to use the cross-reference to the item. This is required as the destination org needs this on the packing lists. Any help would be appreciated.
