Weighted Average Cost On-line or Batch

My customer wants to change inventory cost (F4105) for a particular item group from standard to weighted average cost. The calculation of weighted average cost in JD Edwards can be performed On-line or in Batch. Based on what arguments do you choose one or the other? Is there a technical (performance) reason for not calculating it online or are ther functional reasons to perform the calculation in batch?
