Value set change

Can we increase the maximum size from say 4 to 8 characters of the value set underlying one of the key accounting flexfield segments without impacting anything?  I understand that the interfaces that have fields set to specific lenght need to be tested. Also, reports that display the key flexfield segments may start wrapping around..any others?

Please advise.
