OAF Personalization: set initial value for from-to dates and work order status in simple search to n

My users are frustrated with having to press the clear button upon entry to the work order search form.  I'm trying to initialize the Start From-To Dates and the work order status choice to null but having no luck.  Anyone have any info on accomplishing this?
