need help determining if problem is hardware or software

Sorry if I am not supposed to cross-post, but under "file systems" my question is dead.Last week I replaced a disk on my V245 Solaris 10 box (raidz configured) and haven't been the same since.
Being relatively inexperienced in zfs errors, I wasn't sure what to do when the disk replacement didn't go as it normally does.

So, I did a zpool clear.
I mv'd the "permanent error" files to CLOSET in the same directory.   I cp'd their good versions
to where they were. 
I still saw the "permanent error" - now listing the CLOSET directory and the new files.   I verified
