Conversion of existing raw devices to o_direct when migrating from 10g to 11g

We are migrating from 10g to 11gr2, and at the same time upgrading the OS.  Our obvious migration option is to create a 10g database and use that to restore our rman backup and then upgrade it.  However I am wondering if it is possible to simply attach the existing raw devices (not the voting or cluster disk) (maybe using o_direct) to the 11gr2?  Or does ASM at 11gr2 configure the disks in a different way?  Or is there an upgrade method from 10g raw to 11g O_Direct ?
