Alpha-Numeric Check Numbers

Hello - My client has alpha numberic check numbers for their AP checks.  When I tried to enter the payables document range of 1 to zzzzzzz in the Bank account set up, the system would not accept alpha characters.

Has anyone run into this issue before who could offer a recommendation please?
