SLA vs. Auto-Accounting benefits/thoughts white paper?

I'm curious if anyone has bypassed auto-accounting and used SLA to define their auto-accounting logic.  If so can you expand on that experience?  If you have gone through the decision making process to determine if this was the right solution for your organization or to go with auto-accounting can you say why?  Thanks in advance.
