Unable to communicate with the Management agent on host

I am getting an error reported on the Grid Console:Unable to communicate with the Management agent on host ...

The agent is up and running and uploading data. I don't see any configuration errors in the agent.

It can upload without errors in secure or unsecured mode.  

The agent is 10.2.0.5 (because the database is and older infrastructure database )  and the grid is 11.1

I have confirmed that ping and nslookup work as expected with host names, fully qualified hostnames, ip addresses... from host to grid and from grid to host.   BUT the url on the agent is not working...

emctl status provides the grid url and the agent url and the grid url returns a page. The agent url does NOT.  Not sure how to correct this http(s) communication problem.
