Using Zpool Split Function to Clone Whole Environments

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has used the zpool split function to avail of a quick method of cloning zones along with application filesystems users accounts etc ?
I have a need to be able to clone a whole environment quickly.
To do this I have created a master zpool, which will host all zones along with their users, applications and both app config and zone config.
What I plan to do is to attach / sync /split and import the split zpool into a new system each time, thus giving me a whole setup without the need for lots and lots of reconfig work..
