Compensation Workbench Postprocess

We are on R12.1 HRMS RUP 4.  I noticed on the Compensation Workbench Postprocess that there is a new parameter when you run it from the self service page that says 'Use Award Effective Dates' with a LOV of Yes/No.  If you select Yes, it adds a tip that says 'You have chosen to post compensation on Award Effective Date.  Please note that employees with null value for Award Effective Date will error out.'
Does anyone know what this parameter is for, and what Award Effective Date is referring to because I can't find a date called that in my setups anywhere?
