Can you upgrade from OEM 10g OMS environment on a 64-bit Linux platform to a OEM 12c OMS environment

We have an existing OEM 10g environment with the OMS on a 64-bit Linux server. We want to upgrade our OEM environment to 12c Cloud running on the 64-bit AIX platform. According to the upgrade documentation there is no direct upgrade from one OS to a different OS. Why not? Surely there must be a way to do this?
