How to define mutually exclusive report parameters

In the process of developing a report, there are two parameters which are mutually exclusive.   The user must enter a value in either param1 or param2, but not both and the parameters can not be null.
I have picked clean the minds of my colleagues and I am reaching out to this collective audience.    Any suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
