Summary Balances

Hi Guys......
I know it is very basic question.... but just for confirmation.

In Chart of Acocunts, if I have parent child relations.... say, 10000 is Total Receivables, and 10100 & 10200 are the child... then balances of Child 10100 & 10200 will automatically rolled up to 10000 or i have to use Rollup groups and summary templates to roll up the balances.
