Not able to change password for users added in Solaris 10

Hi Experts,

I am facing the below problem, Need to have solution ASAP.

Command used to create the users: useradd –g 106 –d /export/home/SLO –s /usr/bin/tcsh –m srana

 

To set password: passwd srana

 

[1:31pm] root@XX1: # passwd srana

New Password:

Re-enter new Password:

passwd: Unexpected failure. Password database unchanged.

Permission denied

Apr 10 13:31:51 XX1 passwd[24528]: [ID 301508 auth.alert] passwdutil: crypt_gensalt Invalid argument

Exit 1

[1:31pm] root@XX1: #
