Use of Existing Operating Units

Hi, We have created some Operating Units earlier ( Name as =TTT), but have not been using them for quite some time

 A need has arise to create certain new Operating Units with other names ( Name as =YYY)

 Can we use the existing Operating Units by changing the name of TTT to YYY instead of creating new one?

 What could be the repercussions if we change the name of the existing OU and start using them?

 Can the new name be visible at all places in the system?
