How to recognize a "modification" to a lead/fulfillment screen when an entry is made ONLY in the new

Does anyone know of a way to make OD recognize a "modification" to a lead/fulfillment screen when an entry is made ONLY in the new task entry area?  I noticed the other day in one of my reports that when I edit an existing task entry my entry into the lead does NOT get recorded. This is a concern as  I use that information to track when I last "touched" an account without physically going into the profile.
