Change user password

I am very new to Oracle EBS. I understand that Oracle EBS does the change user password differently using some FND process. Where can I find the steps by step guide for changing user password? I heard that I can't just issue the alter user identified by command at the database level and this might make the app unusable. How should I proceed? Please advice. Thank you very much.
