Weeks in CRM On Demand reports

All,
Has anyone else noticed that in CRM On Demand reports are considering calendar weeks to begin on Monday rather than Sunday?  When did this change and why?

WEEK(DATE '2012-01-01') returns a value of 52 rather than 1.  Jan 1, 2012 was a Sunday and should return a value of 1 - or at least that is the way things used to be. I have checked this in several difference instances of On Demand, and it seems to be this way for everyone rather than affecting a single pod or customer.

Has this caused any problems for anyone else - or is it just me?
